DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on  Monday, September 24, 2007  8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present was Commissioner James Harris, Jr., Cara Brown, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.       

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the Commissioners to discuss county investments / bank accounts under one Federal Tax Identification Number. Karen will be obtaining information on investments / bank accounts. A meeting will be set for all elected officials once the information is obtained.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners and provided an update on pending legal issues in the Prosecutor’s office. Executive session was entered into to discuss pending litigation. Executive session ended with no decision being made.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

The Board received the August, 2007 Activity Report from Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts. Jean reported collecting Legal Fees of $15,067.72 and Title Fees of $5,289.94. The Certificate of Administrative Funds is at $9,824.18. Jean also reported deposits for the following: Legal Fees of $121,650.35 and Title Fees of $450,579.88. The Sales or Use and Dealers Tax collected was $421,958.45 and Watercraft Tax collected was $4,233.64. The total number of titles issued was 2,340, the number of Notation of Liens was 587 and the number of inspections was 519.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, Mike Moats, Engineers office, and Julie Voll, Commissioners office, met with the Commissioners to discuss the 2010 Census.

 

Warren then provided an update on projects at the Engineer’s office. Beerbower Road between Cicero and Lake Roads, and Mulligans Bluff Road between State Route 18 and Lockwood should be paved this week. Warren also provided his report for the Farmer Mark Tile Ditch Improvement Project.

 

Warren Schlatter, Engineer, Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Greg Reinhart, Director of Wastewater Operations and the Commissioners entered into executive session to discuss pending litigation. Executive session ended with no decision being made.

 

The Commissioners attended the Northwest Ohio Commissioners and Engineers Association quarterly meeting in Marion in the afternoon.  They received an update from the CCAO staff on legislation.
