DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz Clerk, and Arica Smith, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates.

Julie Rittenhouse, Public Safety, reported that 22 people attended the Hazmat IQ Above/Below the Line training held Sunday, September 23rd at the EMA Building. Employees and volunteers from Defiance, Tiffin, Noble and Hicksville Fire Departments and the Defiance County EMA Department were in attendance. 

Ron Cereghin, Maintenance, reported that the Evergreen Lane Office Complex boilers have been checked out and fired up for the winter.

 

Laura provided an update for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. The contractor for the Vine Street project in Sherwood, Ohio is on site and anticipates completion of demolition by the end of the week. The project at 1988 West Street in Evansport, Ohio anticipates starting this week and completing demolition work by the end of the week. The project at 1944 West Street in Evansport, Ohio anticipates starting abatement work this week.

 

Lee Rausch, City Engineer met with the Board for approval to move forward with the donation of County land for the City gateway portion of Streetscape, Section II. The Commissioners and Lee agreed to the County donating the necessary land for the gateway project with the City not charging the County for costs for the alley vacation. The County will provide the necessary survey and legal description for the alley vacation.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tim reported to date litter has been collected on 579.20 miles of roadway in Defiance County. Tim reported sales of $315,470.951 from 37,330 cubic yards and 11,279.84 tons in August, compared to $305,045.43 from 36,127 cubic yards and 8,967.58 tons in 2011.
