COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Stephanie Metz, Clerk,
and Arica Smith, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners held the viewing for the request filed by
Mark Township Trustees for the vacation of a portion of High Street beginning
at the East entrance of Main Street (Farmer Mark Road) running east, and Kyle
Street from the South entrance starting at the East end of High Street running
north, located in the Blocks of 12 and 17 in the unincorporated Village of Mark
Center in Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio. The Mark Township Trustees,
County Engineer and landowner Dave Kline were in attendance. There will be a
public hearing regarding this matter on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 9:30 a.m.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners
for an update. Warren informed the Commissioners that The Bend Road is now open
to traffic. The railroad approach work on Krouse Road and the bridge
replacement on Platter Creek Road are to begin on Tuesday. The pavement marking
contractor has begun work in the County.
Ron Cereghin, Defiance County Maintenance Supervisor, and Greg
Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director, met with the
Commissioners to discuss facility maintenance.
Due to a scheduling conflict, Matt Davis, Maumee Valley Planning
Organization, was not able to meet with the Commissioners to discuss the Moving
Ohio Forward Grant Program.
Cecilia Parsons, Defiance County Recorder,
met with the Commissioners to provide an update and the month-end report. Cecilia
reported that during the month of September, 2012, the total instruments filed
were as follows: 137 Deeds, 217 Mortgages, 11 Other Liens, 202 Releases, 4
Power of Attorneys, and 4 Soldiers Discharge. There was $30,107.25 in total
receipts, of which $14,674.00 went to the Housing Trust Fund and $13,273.25
went to the General Fund.
Connie Planson and
Denny Shannon, Maumee Valley Guidance Center, and Jerry Overmier, Beilharz
Architects, met with the Commissioners to discuss the building lease.
John Fifer and Lavon Wiles, Defiance County Fairboard, met with the
Commissioners to discuss improvements to the fairgrounds. The Commissioners
stated that this year they will fund the removal of the dead trees, planting
new trees to replace them, and provide two loads of stone for the parking lot.
The Commissioners will review the remainder of the list after budgets have been
determined.
