DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on  Thursday, October 18, 2007  8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, and Cara Brown, Clerk. Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk was absent.       

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

Laura Howell, Operations Manager, provided an Operations update. Laura advised that the Defiance County Health Department will hold a Flu Shot Clinic for county employees on November 6, 2007 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Health Department.

 

Laura reported that work has begun on the roofs of buildings #4 and #5 at the Defiance County Airport. Also, J & N Contracting has replaced the concrete sidewalk in front of the Defiance County East building as contracted. The Maintenance Department has wired up a panel at the Landfill so that permanent power can be used to run the pumps instead of generators.

 

The Commissioners and office Staff will be attending the Mandatory Public Records Training on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at the Ramada Inn in Montpelier, Ohio. The Commissioners office will close at 3:30 p.m. to allow everyone to attend the training.

 

Randy Vogel, Dog Warden, presented his monthly update to the Board. For the month of September, his office received 122 complaints. Of these complaints, 62 were within the City. There were 16 citations and 25 warnings issued and 30 dogs were taken to the shelter.

 

Tina Hiler, Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Tina advised that the Senior Center has two vehicles that need to be replaced. She has requested permission from the Commissioners to begin looking for replacement vehicles.  Tina stated that more money is still needed for the new building and that she is currently working on several fundraisers for this.

 

The Senior Center will be hosting a Spaghetti dinner on Friday, October 19, 2007 from 5-7 p.m at the Senior Center. The cost of the dinner is $6.00. On Tuesday, October 23, 2007, a Pampered Chef Fundraiser will be held at the Senior Center. A Halloween Party will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Defiance Eagles. For those under 60 years there is a charge of $6.00 and for those over 60 there is a suggested donation of $5.00.

 

The Board of Commissioners has issued an official Proclamation for stand against tobacco at the request of Tinora High School to show support for tobacco-free lives. The Commissioners will be attending the Tinora vs. Hicksville football game on Friday, October 19 at Tinora High School to recognize the stand proclamation.
