COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the
meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Stephanie Metz Clerk,
and Arica Smith, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners held a public hearing for
the request
filed by Mark Township Trustees for the vacation of a portion of High Street
beginning at the East entrance of Main Street (Farmer Mark Road) running east,
and Kyle Street from the South entrance starting at the East end of High Street
running north, located in the Blocks of 12 and 17 in the unincorporated Village
of Mark Center in Mark Township, Defiance County, Ohio. The Mark Township
Trustees and County Engineer were in attendance. Commissioner Kime read the
recommendation from the Defiance County Engineer Warren Schlatter, which
stated: “I recommend the approval of this vacation as the streets were never
constructed and it does not appear that they would be. It would be my
recommendation to encourage that all the unimproved street rights of way in
Mark Center be reviewed and petitioned for vacation to clean up the large
number of them that exist due to the platting but were never constructed.”
There was no other testimony presented. The Commissioners approved the
requested vacation.
Lanie Lambert,
Defiance County Records Center Director, met with the Commissioners for an
update. Lanie stated that during January – September 2012 there were 2,364
records requests, $1,144.31 in revenue for copies and certification fees, 2,440
images scanned, 70 new boxes and/or books of records taken in and 201 boxes
and/or books of records removed.
Tim Houck,
Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.
Tim informed the Board that during September, 2012 there was $288,265.51
collected from 10,841.65 tons and 33,863 cubic yards of waste compared to
$256,282.48 collected from 7,941.72 tons and 27,895 cubic yards in September,
2011. Beginning in November, the Hicksville Transfer Station will begin its
winter hours of only being open one time per month. The 2012 County Road Litter
Collection goal was 903 miles, for a monthly average of 76. To date, there has
been 672.40 miles collected, for a monthly average of 93.2. On September 18
& 19 educational presentations were given to Kindergarteners and Early 5's.
140 students and 4 adults participated in the Earth Bracelet program.
