COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator,
Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Arica Smith, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Jason Roehrig, Defiance County Soil &
Water, met with the Commissioners for an update. Jason stated that there will
be a viewing/informational meeting this winter for the Flory Tile and Webb Run.
He stated that there are at least 10 projects on file. There were 7 Farm Bill
Conservation Programs designed/completed this fall. They are currently not
accepting new enrollments for the CRP until the new farm bill is signed. They
are designing 3 wetlands. The 6th grade tour was a success with
Tinora, Ayersville, Fairview and Holy Cross
participating. Defiance County hosted the Technician tour with 23 District
Technicians and NRCS engineers in attendance. They
toured Tony Singer wetland, Consolidated Grain & Barge, Colwell Ditch,
Urban demonstration projects, Sharrock Wetland,
Nester Waterway and Tomlinson Ditch. There were 40 controlled drainage
structures in Adams and Richland Townships through the Ohio Clean Lakes
Initiatives; Defiance County was allocated $140,000.00.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners
for an update. Warren reviewed his Accumulated Revenue Report for October 2012.
The 2012 Accumulated Revenue is $3,437,765.46, compared to $3,415,976.93 for
2011.
The Commissioners and Warren went to the Defiance County Highway Garage
for the Annual Snow Plow Inspection. They also toured Krouse
Road Widening, The Bend Road Bridge, Platter Creek Road Bridge, Bostater Road Bridge project locations.
The Commissioners held budget hearings with the following departments:
Veterans Affairs, Public Safety, Recorder and Common Pleas Court.
The Commissioners attended the Sherwood Park Board meeting to see the
presentation of a signed County Flag by the Fairview Archery Team to be
displayed at the archery practice room. The Commissioners donated a County Flag
for the Fairview Archery team to take to the National Archery Championship to
have the participants from other countries sign.
