DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2011

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Mike McCann, City of Defiance Mayoral Candidate, was in attendance and discussed County government procedures with the Commissioners.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Marilyn Hite, Linda Brose, Michelle Zeedyk, Stephanie Small, Gary Chaney, and Ian MacGregor, Defiance Public Library, met with the Commissioners to discuss the 5 year operating levy renewal.

 

Nicole Grindley, Defiance County Soil & Water, met with the Commissioners to discuss enlarging the Upper Maumee Watershed by approximately one square mile to include the confluence of the Auglaize River. Enlarging the watershed will provide more funding opportunities.

 

The Commissioners held budget hearings with Child Support Enforcement Agency, Coroner, Veterans’ Office, and Recorder.

 

Matt Davis, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners to provide updates on the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and the Brownfield Program. Matt is continuing to work on options for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. The Brownfields Grant is to be completed by next summer.  After the completion of the grant for Defiance County, the Zeller property is now in the position to request clean up money from the state. The FY 2012 Brownfields Grant is in the planning stages for applications.

 

Chris Coty, ARS, and Jeff Ankney and Kevin Hancock, Defiance County Soil & Water, met with the Commissioners to discuss ARS donating stone for the Ditch 40 retention pond in Williams County. The Commissioners accepted the stone. Kevin Hancock, Ditch Maintenance Supervisor, will create a plan including a date and time to place the stone and the possibility of utilizing volunteers for the placement.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, met with the Commissioners, Amy Galbraith, Clerk of Courts, and Juvenile/Probate Court Judge Strausbaugh to review preliminary plans for the Courthouse.
