DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2007 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk

 

Traci Flory, Tinora Junior Class Advisor, Dillon Cereghin, Audra Westrick, Ethan Stykemain, Trey Meyer, Tinora Junior Class Officers, met with the Commissioners to thank them for their recognition of Tinora’s stand proclamation and DEBUNKIFY for a stand against tobacco.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

Tina Morhing, Family & Children First Coordinator, and Lora Ripke, Help Me Grow Family Support Specialist, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund programs and to introduce Lora to the Board. Tina advised that the purpose of the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund is to implement child abuse and neglect prevention programs in the county.

 

Laura Howell, Operations Manger / Administrator, provided her operations update. Laura advised that Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, has obtained quotes on trees to replace some trees at the Defiance County East building and the Evergreen Lane Office Complex. Ron has also obtained quotes for replacing some roofs out at Auglaize Village.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the Commissioners to discuss county investments / bank accounts under one Federal Tax Identification Number. Jim Deveney and Chris Hencke with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) joined the meeting via telephone. A meeting will be set for all elected officials once additional information is obtained.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners in Executive Session to discuss pending and imminent litigation. Executive Session ended with no decision being made.

 

The Commissioners, Laura Howell, Operations Manager / Administrator, and Sherry Carnahan, Deputy Clerk, met with the following County offices to prepare 2008 budgets: Judge Ruyle, Juvenile/Probate Court; Karen Tubbs, Treasurer; Greg Reinhart, Wastewater; Marlene Goodwin, Auditor and Mike Williams, Veterans offices.

 

The Commissioners, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer attended the Final Hearing for the Farmer-Mark Ditch Tile Project at the Farmer Fire Hall on Thursday evening. There were no objections to proceeding with the project. The Board of Commissioners approved proceeding with the Farmer-Mark Ditch Tile Project.

 

There will be no session on Monday, November 12, 2007 in observance of Veteran’s Day.
