DEFIANCE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2009
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the Commissioners to
review the Main County Depositor. Karen
will bring back an official recommendation for the Board to make a decision on
Thursday.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners
for his weekly update. Warren presented his 2009 Accumulated Revenue
report through October, 2009. The
accumulated revenue to date is $3,364,982.49 compared to $3,506,462.39 for the
same time period in 2008. Warren
informed the Board the contractor is paving the SR 66-Elliott Road intersection
today. The contractor is beginning to
pour the concrete for the Christy Road-SR 15/18 Intersection project.
Julie Rittenhouse, Defiance County Public Safety, met with the
Commissioners for an update. Julie
reported that the FY 2007 State Homeland Security Program Grant was completed
($56,868.00) and she has now opened the FY 2008 SHSP Grant in the amount of
$55,289.19. This money is being used
for: Hicksville Police Department masks, Sherwood Siren, generator tap at
Defiance County Highway Garage, and pagers for Defiance Fire and Hicksville
EMS. The SHSP Grant for FY 2009 is in
the amount of $55,971.52, this money will be allocated to projects in
2010-2011.
Nancy Porter, Sarah Kadow and Elaine Ostrander, Defiance County Humane
Society, met with the Commissioners for an update. Sarah Kadow began as the new director on
August 17, 2009. Sarah presented the
Shelter Report for the month of October 2009 as follows: 72 adoptions, 28
claims, and 91 euthanized.
The Commissioners
held budget meetings with Senior Services, Job & Family Services, Recorder,
Veterans’ Affairs and Auditor Departments.
Budget Meetings will continue on Tuesday.
The County
agencies will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in observance of
Veterans’ Day.
