COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2012 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Arica Smith, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the
Commissioners for an update. There will be Medicare Part D assistance with
research and education on a prescription drug program until December 7, 2012.
The Rest & Recuperation Banquet will be held at Noon on Wednesday, December
12, 2012 at the Defiance Center. The Christmas Dinner will be held at 11:30 am
on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Defiance Center.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners
for an update. Warren reported that Krouse Road work
is completed. The Village of Hicksville’s SR 2 project is almost completed;
seeding is the only item remaining. Platter Creek is scheduled to open on
Monday, after being closed for a bridge replacement. All the Purple Heart
County signs have been installed at all twenty-two locations throughout the
County. The office has begun the annual bridge inspections and annual road
inspections.
Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director, met with
the Commissioners for an update. Greg reported the following maintenance items
being completed: pulled and cleaned pumps at Auglaize River Sewer pump station
#7; replaced grinder pump on Timbercrest Drive.
During October there was $59,178.34 billed out, $53,555.26 collected and
expenses of $30,465.60.
Ben Gerken and Jason Roehrig, Defiance County
Soil & Water, met with the Commissioners for the Vetter Tile #12-01 bid
opening. The pre-bid estimate was $15,491.89. There were no bids received. The
Commissioners recommended obtain quotes for the project, since it is under the
$50,000.00 bid threshold.
The Commissioners held budget hearings with the following departments: Environmental
Services, Dog Warden, Prosecuting Attorney and Municipal Court.
The Commissioners recently received the Monthly Activity Report for
October 2012 from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported
collecting $11,913.41 in legal, $19,152.87 in title, $414,293.03 in Sales or
Use and Dealers’ Tax, and $753.48 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of
$61,191.20 in legal and $452,228.89 in title. There were 1,704 titles issued,
435 notation of liens, and 470 inpsections.
