DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, and Stephanie Metz Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates. Laura provided the following updates:

·         The Commissioners’ Office received notification from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that both the Defiance County Child Enforcement Agency and Defiance County Job and Family Services completed and passed the A-133 Audit with no administrative findings, no uncorrected previous year findings and no management letter recommendation related to programs passed through the ODJFS. The Audit Period was 1/1/11 through 12/31/11.

·         Fifteen entries were received by the Northwest Ohio’s River Region in the photography contest from Defiance High School and Ayersville High School. The Northwest Ohio’s River Region will be announcing the winners.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Paul Munn and Ed Merriman, Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. provided the Commissioners with a proposed schedule for Phase 3 of the Landfill construction project. Tim reported that during October 2012 there was $328,402.64 in sales from 38,467 cubic yards and 12,142.94 tons collected; compared to $270,117.69 in sales from 28,920 cubic yards and 8,965.73 tons collected in October 2011.

 

Terri Mahaney, Medical Mutual of Ohio; Ken Keller, First Insurance & Investments, Medical Mutual of Ohio; Sharon Scheuerman, Barb Lasek and Jill Little, Defiance County Auditor’s Office; and Sherry Carnahan, Deputy Clerk met with the Commissioners to discuss employee health insurance. Ms. Mahaney provided the Commissioners with the 2013 Health Insurance Renewal and statistics for 2012 through October. Medical Mutual has provided an overall 45.47% savings of the submitted charges.
