DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2012

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., and Laura Howell, Administrator. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Upon recommendation of County Engineer Warren Schlatter, the Commissioners approved a request from the City of Defiance for $174,225.56 for use of permissive tax money for street resurfacing and signal maintenance for the calendar period of November, 2011 through October, 2012.

 

Upon recommendation of County Coroner Dr. Paul Bose, the Board also approved an agreement with the Board of County Commissioners of Lucas County, Ohio for 2013 autopsy services. In the agreement, Lucas County will perform complete and or limited autopsies as requested by Defiance County, as well as providing testimony in cases as required by a court of law. The 2013 rate for autopsy services will be $1,200.00 for each complete autopsy performed.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update. Warren stated that crews are working on a culvert north of Egler Road for Richland Township - crews are replacing a corrugated metal pipe with a larger corrugated metal pipe.

 

Matt Davis, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners for an update on Brownfield Grant opportunities, specifically for the vacant SK property. Matt also provided the Board with an update on the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, informing the Board that Defiance County spent approximately $134,000 of NSP grant money; the original estimate for demolition projects in Defiance County was $98,000.00.

 

The Board met with Lee Rausch, Defiance City Engineer, to inform him of a Notice of Violation letter received from the Ohio Public Utilities Commission in regards to Maumee and Western vegetation obstructions. The Board also informed Mr. Rausch of miscellaneous debris in the ditch to the west of the Domersville Road rail crossing.

 

The Board met with Larry Woods, First Insurance Group, and Julie Rittenhouse, EMA Director, to review and approve the CORSA 2013-2014 County Renewal Application. CORSA provides County members with comprehensive property and casualty coverage and high quality risk management services.
