DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, December 6, 2007.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Jane Tadsen, Defiance County Recorder, submitted her monthly report to the Commissioners. Jane reported recording 133 deeds, 156 Mortgages, 185 Releases, and 11 Power of Attorneys. The total of the month of November, 2007 was $21,769.45 of which $10,724.60 went towards the Housing Trust Fund and $11,044.85 went towards the General Fund.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided the Board with her update. Laura advised that Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, has submitted his capital improvements list for 2008 with approximate costs of $231,000.00.

 

Laura also advised that work at the Belden’s Addition Pump Station has been completed. The County would like to extend a “Thank you” to Defiance County Engineer, Staff and Crew, also the City of Defiance as well as the City of Napoleon. The project engineer had submitted an estimate of almost $60,000.00, but since the County was able to use personnel and equipment from the City of Defiance, City of Napoleon, and the Defiance County Engineer’s office, the cost is now estimated to be $15,000.00.

 

Karen Tubbs, Treasurer, and Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts, met with the Commissioners to discuss the County’s investment portfolio and market trends.

 

Steve Flickinger and Linda Maag, State Auditors, and Phil Snider and Shelly Coble, Maumee Valley Planning, met with the Commissioners to discuss funding for the recently formed Port Authority. More information is needed before a determination can be made.

 

Morris Murray, Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Child Support Agency’s cost allocation plan and rental agreement.

 

Jim Pitzen and Mike Anderzack of Anderzack-Pitzen, Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, and Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners in Executive Session to discuss the Express Sewer. Executive Session ended with no decision being made.
