DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, and Stephanie Metz Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners certified the October Solid Waste Disposal Submittal Forms for the Landfill facilities. Defiance Township, as the host government agency received $1,740.23. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) also received $2,905.56 for the construction & demolition debris (C&DD) waste.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates. Laura provided the following updates:

·         Child Support Enforcement Agency - Sandy Schappert reported that the Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency is in the process of their annual case self-assessment. The State provides a list of 50 cases that local officials go through and answer a list of questions to make sure they are following proper procedure. The self-assessment has a completion date of February 15, 2013. Sandy also reported the Department’s November figures: $565,854.00 in collections, $56,126.54 in expenditures, and a caseload of 2,842.

·         Records Center - Lanie Lambert reported that the Records Center staff continues to proofread microfilms and cross check death records with the two original volumes.  November statistics: 178 requests, $76.85 received for copies and 24 boxes of files received.

 

Corey Walker, Defiance County Job & Family Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. At this time Defiance County JFS continues to work under the assumption of a ten percent reduction to flat funding for SFY2014. Federally, the most significant issue would be the funding of WIA in regards to fiscal talks. Other federal dollars in fiscal discussions appear to be pass-thru. There are currently 2,348 families, equating to 5,300 individuals receiving $638,042.00 a month in food assistance.

 

Mike Sharb, Squire Sanders LLP; Andy Sterling & Mary Carr, USDA Rural Development; Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney; Vickie Myers, Defiance County Treasurer; Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, met with the Commissioners to sign the $1,977,000 bond for the Auglaize River Sewer Project.
