DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, and Stephanie Metz Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners received notice from Jason Roehrig that two quotes were received for the Vetter Tile #12-01 project: Zimmerman Farm Drainage, LLC – 10,382.90 and Sines Excavating, LLC - $20,043.00. The original estimate was $15,491.89. The Commissioners approved the recommendation from Jason Roehrig of using Zimmerman Farm Drainage, LLC.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates.

 

Laura informed the Board that Defiance County received notice from the Ohio Department of Public Safety that the Village of Hicksville received final Federal approval as a participant in the Defiance County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Defiance County met the criteria for a local hazard mitigation plan and the plan is now approved for the Village of Hicksville. The approval of this plan ensures continued availability of the full complement of Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grants. The expiration date of the plan is November 6, 2017.

 

Laura also informed the Board that Defiance County Family and Children First and Help Me Grow Early Intervention Program received congratulations from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), Bureau of Early Intervention Services on achieving a 100% compliance percentage on analysis of the County’s State Fiscal Year 2012 45-day baseline data. ODH conducted analysis of new Early Intervention referrals whose initial referral occurred from February 15 through May 16, 2012 and whose timelines ended April 1 through June 30, 2012. ODH appreciates the efforts that the FCFC and HMG staff in Defiance County made to ensure that infants and toddlers receive timely IFSPs, screenings and other requirements.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update. Randy reported investigating 82 calls in November, 2012, that resulted in 13 dogs taken to the shelter, 16 warnings issued and 8 citations written. There was 3,091 miles driven and $503.50 received in Municipal Court fines.  In 2012 there was $2,563.00 more received in dog tag sales than in 2011.  2013 Dog tags are now available to be purchased.
