DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 2013

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners certified the December Solid Waste Disposal Submittal Forms for the Landfill facilities. Defiance Township, as the host government agency received $1,539.09. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) also received $1,883.93 for the construction & demolition debris (C&DD) waste.

Defiance County Probate/Juvenile Judge Strausbaugh and Erin Spieth met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the office.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update. Randy reported 2012 investigating 81 calls in December 2012 that resulted in 23 dogs taken to the shelter and 6 warnings issued. There was 3,003 miles driven and $599.00 received in Municipal Court fines. Dog tag sales receipts were $128,085.00 for 2012, which is an increase of $6,885.00 from 2011. 2013 dog tags remain at regular cost through January 31, 2013. After that time, there will be a penalty. The Dog Warden’s office will begin going door-to-door in February.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tina informed the Board that the 2012 revenue was $1,276,549.79 and expenses for 2012 were $1,265,841.89. The Hicksville Senior Center is preparing for their first fund raiser. On Tuesday, February 12th from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, they will be having a Bake Sale that is open to the public.

 

The Commissioners would like to thank the Senior Services Auxiliary for all the hard work the organization did for the Defiance County Senior Centers in 2012 including raising $50,000 for the parking lot. They donate countless hours to better the Senior Centers for the Community, and all their efforts are greatly appreciated.

 

The Commissioners recently received the monthly Clerk of Courts report from Amy Galbraith for December, 2012. Amy reported collecting $11,122.76 in legal, $16,019.63 in title, $374,326.95 in sales or use and dealers’ tax, and $148.50. There were deposits made of $66,545.75 in legal and $399,346.80 in title. There were 1,582 titles issued, 374 notation of liens, and 503 inspections.
