DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2013

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Angelica Abels, Deputy Clerk.

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

Based upon the recommendation of Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, the Commissioners awarded the 2013 Crack Sealing bid to DG Slurry Seal of Toledo, Inc. Also based upon the recommendation of Warren Schlatter, the Commissioners awarded the 2013 Pavement Marking to Aero Mark, Inc.

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates. Laura provided the following updates:

Auglaize Village requested the Commissioners to place stone on the driveways; the Commissioners approved this request and will proceeding with it.

Matt Davis, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, informed Laura that there is approximately $116,000.00 remaining in the Moving Ohio Forward Program to assist in the demolition of qualifying structures. These funds are to demolish blighted, residential structures. Defiance County is requesting a second round of nominations for projects to be funded with these grant dollars. Matt Davis from MVPO will be handling this program for the Defiance County Commissioners. Cindy Mack, Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau, met with the Commissioners for an update.

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senor Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Randy Buchman will be speaking at the Defiance Center on March 19, 2013. The Hicksville Center will host an Easter Bake Sale on March 28, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Defiance Activity department is leasing out the raised garden spaces in the Defiance Senior Center’s yard.
