DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Angelica Abels, Deputy Clerk.

 

Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecutor and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the bid openings for 2013 Paving of Various Roads Bid Opening. The following bids were received for: Proposal A – Option 1 (Hot Mix Widening) - Gerken Paving, Inc. - $307,152.00; Proposal A – Option 2 (Concrete Widening) – Gerken Paving, Inc. - $244,228.50; RG Zachrich - $258,093.00; Vernon Nagel, Inc. - $266,091.75 - Proposal B (Paving and Patching) – Gerken Paving, Inc., $971,589.75 -  Proposal C (Chip Sealing) – Ward Construction - $226,844.88 and Henry W. Bergman - $238,952.76.

 

The Engineer’s Estimate was: Proposal A - Option 1 - $298,620.00; Proposal A - Option 2 -$298,620.00; Proposal B - $1,053,055.00; Proposal C - $236,886.27. The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.

 

Warren informed the Commissioners that the pre-construction meeting was held with Helms and Sons for the Defiance Ayersville Pleasant Bend Road project. The contractor plans on starting around the first of April, weather permitting.

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Greg reported the following maintenance items being completed: pulled and cleaned pumps at Auglaize River pump station # 7; changed three grinder pumps, one on Christy Road, one on Oak Forest Drive and one on Honeysuckle Lane; primed Paulding County Pump Station # 4; new gages installed at Christy pump station for pump control; generators were delivered for Auglaize River project and Paulding County; installed grinder pump at new house on Honeysuckle Lane. Greg also reported billing out $66,065.34, collecting $72,376.66, and having expenses of $38,877.97 in February.

 

The Commissioners’ Office recently received the monthly Clerk of Courts’ report from Amy Galbraith for February 2013. Amy reported collecting $13,187.30 in legal, $20,384.80 in title, $433,061.30 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax, and $272.10 in watercraft tax. There were deposits of $77,827.36 in legal and $430,527.65 in title. There were 1,796 titles issued, 482 notation of liens and 494 inspections.
