COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, APRIL 4, 2013
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in the Hicksville Village Council Room,
Hicksville, Ohio. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris,
Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Angelica Abels, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners approved contracts with Gerken Paving, Inc. for the
2013 Paving of Various Roads, Proposal “A” for $224,228.50 and Proposal “B” for
$971,589.75.
The Commissioners adopted a resolution in support of the continuation
of the current tax exemption for municipal bonds. The Commissioners will forward
the adopted resolution to Senator Cliff Hite and Ohio Representatives Tony
Burkley and Lynn Wachtmann. The County Commissioners Association of Ohio
believes this is an important issue for the vital funding of local
infrastructure and economic development for counties and local governments.
Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the
Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates.
The Commissioners recently received the monthly report from Cecilia
Parsons, Defiance County Recorder. During March, 2013, the following
instruments were recorded: deeds -139; mortgages – 172; releases – 228; power
of attorney – 9. There was $28,239.25 in receipts, of which $13,818.00 went to
the Housing Trust Fund and $12,241.25 went to the General Fund.
The meeting with Sue Steinert of County
Commissioners Association of Ohio Deferred Compensation Plan was cancelled due
to personal reasons.
On Friday, the Commissioners will attend the Local Emergency Planning Committee at the
Emergency Management Agency building.
The Commissioners
are still reviewing options for the pending vacant Administrator position.
