DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 15, 2013

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Angelica Abels, Deputy Clerk.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners announced their selections for Architectural Design Services for Remodel/Renovation/Replacement of the Defiance County Courthouse. The firms chosen were: Beilharz Architects, Inc., Garmann Miller, DLZ Architecture and Poggemeyer Design Group. Interviews are schedule for Thursday, May 9, 2013.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update. Warren reported that work continues on the Defiance Ayersville Pleasant Bend Road project and the 2013 Crack Sealing contractor will begin this week, weather permitting.

 

Sandy Schappert, Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, met with the Commissioners for a quarterly update. Sandra reported Collections through March 2013 were $637,000.00 with a caseload of 2,811 compared to $623,792.00 with a caseload of 2,919 for March 2012. Through March 2013 there was $50,452.10 in Expenditures and $13,830.30 in Administrative fees.

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Greg reported the following maintenance items being completed: pulled and cleaned pumps at Auglaize River Sewer pump station # 7; installed a new aerator and new pipe at Evergreen Lane Office Complex; greased and oiled all Auglaize River Sewer plants and pump stations, including Paulding County’s; installed plugs for generators at all Auglaize River Sewer pump stations (Defiance and Paulding County); replaced blower belt at Evergreen Lane Office Complex. Greg also reported billing out $59,928.14, collecting $82,941.00, and having expenses of $45,846.78 in March.

 

Ohio Representative Tony Burkley met with the Commissioners in an impromptu visit to discuss pending legislative matters.

 

The Commissioners are still reviewing options for the pending vacant Administrator position.
