DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in
regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013 in the Conference Room
in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely
called the meeting to order. Also
present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry
Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar
of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners approved beginning the
negotiation process with DLZ for the Remodel/Renovation/Replacement
of the Defiance County Courthouse.
The
Commissioners certified the January Solid Waste Disposal Submittal Forms for
the Landfill facilities. Defiance Township, as the host government agency
received $2,118.56. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) also
received $1,698.58 for the construction & demolition debris (C&DD) waste.
Lynn Army, Maumee Valley
Conservancy District, and Tom Vance, Village of Ney Mayor, met with the
Commissioners to discuss Lick Creek flooding concerns. Scott Lirot, Bill Stockinger and Lynn Thompson, Bryan Times, also
joined session. Lynn Army explained that to begin the process of the
Conservancy District looking into the project, either a certain number of
citizens or a political subdivision must submit a request in writing. He stated
that they are governed by the Ohio Revised Code Section 6101. Mayor Vance
stated the Village of Ney continues to get flooded, and the flooding is getting
worse every year. He will discuss the Village of Ney submitting a request to
the Conservancy District at the next Village Council meeting.
Sherry Carnahan, Finance
Manager/Administrator, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update.
Randy Vogel, Defiance
County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Randy
reported investigating 141 calls that resulted in 24 dogs taken to the shelter,
29 warnings issued and 32 citations written. There were 3,757 miles driven and
$465.00 received in Municipal Court Fines. Dog tag sales through April totaled
$97,812.00, compared to $76,508.00 for 2012.
Tina Hiler, Defiance County
Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Tina
reported the Defiance Center will be hosting a Senior Services
Info Fair,
"For the Health of It", on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be 40
organizations, agencies and businesses with timely information on a
variety of topics
that will interest senior adults. There will also be a healthy
lunch, as well
as zumba and yoga demonstrations. The 3rd Annual Old Timer's Ride is scheduled for Saturday,
June 22, 2013.
It is $20 for a single rider / $25 with passenger; this Includes
a chicken or rib
dinner, Go and SHOW Bike Show (with trophies), raffles and more. Riders
will be entered into a special free drawing. Registration is at 11:00 a.m. with kickstands up at Noon
from Integrity Defiance Auto Body, Inc.
