COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The
Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on
Monday, May 20, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500
Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance
Manager/Administrator, Stephanie Metz,
Clerk, and Angelica Abels, Deputy Clerk.
The
Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the
calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the bid opening for
the 2013 Bulk Ice Control Salt. The following bids were received: Morton Salt -
$69.62; Cargill Incorporated Deicing Technology - $66.31. Warren stated that
the bid was for 600 tons of salt. He stated that there is approximately 1,200
tons left in the salt barn.
Warren also provided a
weekly update. Warren stated that the crack sealing, dura
patching, and Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road work is continuing. The
Hill Road bridge deck was poured last week. Once this project is finished, the
crew will move to the former Garden Ridge Nursery site to finish the work from
last year. The widening, paving and berming work is completed on Watson Road.
The widening work is completed on Flory Road; the contractor is currently doing
the paving work. The vegetation control was completed over the weekend/

Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners for
an update. Greg reported the following maintenance items being completed: pulled and cleaned pump at Auglaize River pump station #7; worked at Paulding County’s
Auglaize River pump station #7 for alarms and leaking
fittings; primed
pump at Auglaize River pump station #6; worked on Auglaize River pump station #1 for discharge failure on
one pump and flushed out pump; fixed dry well lid at Auglaize River pump station #1; Tresslers fixed pipe on Lakeview Dr. where pipe was broken down; installed rebuilt pump at Auglaize River pump station #7; fixed grinder pump on Timbercrest Dr. and check valve on pump replaced. Greg also reported the following for April: billing out $59,566.34; collecting $57,263.76 and
having expenses of
$41,056.43.
The Commissioners recently received the April 2013 monthly report from Amy
Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. There were collections of
$10,639.39 in Legal, $21,780.60 in Title, $430,697.52 in Sales or Use and
Dealers’ Tax and $902.00 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of $104,904.34
in Legal and $462,392.17 in Title. There were 1,851 titles issued, 487 notation
of liens, and 534 inspections.
The
Commissioners received an anonymous complaint about a property in Highland
Township. The Board forwarded the complaint to the Highland Township Trustees
because the Township Trustees have the authority over nuisance complaints.
