COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan,
Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed
the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners attended the Consolidated Grain & Barge open
house.
Eric Ratts, DLZ,
met with the Commissioners to review the contract for architectural services
for the Courthouse Project.

Office recently received the Program
Year 2012 Older Americans Act Title III Report for the AOoA Monitoring Visit conducted on May 23, 2013 at the
Defiance Senior Center. The report stated: “You
are to be commended for the outstanding manner in which you provide services to
the seniors of Defiance County and because the Monitor Visit resulted in NO
FINDINGS. Well done!”
The Commissioners’ Office recently received the 2012 Annual Report for
the Four County ADAMhs Board. The ADAMhs
Board is governed by up to 18 board members who are appointed by county
commissioners, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Ohio Department of
Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services. In 2012 there were 3,485 adults and 2,222
children that received funded services. There were 16,116 persons that received
prevention services. Last year, the board funded direct services to 5,707
persons – a small increase of 42 persons receiving mental health or
alcohol/drug services from the year before. Below is the 2012 Revenue by

In 2012 there were 276,181 units of service for adults, 114,257 for
children and adolescents and 23,548 for prevention services. “Units of service”
measure many different things – 15 minutes of counseling, a day in the
hospital, a visit with the doctor and so on. Prevention services include meals
at the P.A.T.H. Center, parenting classes by Four
County Family Center, the Olweus bullying program by
the Center for Child and Family Advocacy as well as school presentations made
by Recovery Services of Northwest Ohio.
The Applications for the 2013 Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program
(SFMNP) are available at both the Hicksville and
Defiance Senior Centers. This program,
funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, provides eligible seniors with
coupons valued at $50.00 for fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and
honey. You are eligible to receive SFMNP coupons if:
you are 60 years of age or over; you are a resident of Defiance, Erie, Fulton,
Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Sandusky, Seneca, Williams or Wood Counties in
Ohio or the city of Fostoria, Ohio; your annual income is $0 - $21,257 if you
live alone or $0 - $28,694 for a household of 2.
