COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The
Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on
Monday, June 17, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at
500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely
called the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioner James E. Harris, Jr., Sherry Carnahan, Finance
Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The
Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the
calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The
Commissioners approved an amendment to the agreement with K&P
Medical Transport Ltd. and Defiance County Department of Job and Family
Services for transportation services. The agreement was amended from $1.50/mile
plus $15 wait times in excess of ˝ hour, plus stop charges, to a flat all
encompassing $2.85/mile with no stop or wait charges.
Matt Gilroy, Defiance County Airport Authority, met
with the Commissioners for an update. Matt informed the Board that the Airport
Board is continuing to research the possibility of using a private developer to
build a hanger at the Defiance County Airport. Matt informed the Board that the
advertisements for the Airport lighting project will begin running this week.
He stated that the estimate for the project is $360,000 and there is a 10%
match required from the County. Matt also informed the Board that the study to
determine if there are any Indiana Bats near the Airport will be done the end
of June; this is required for the FAA ordered tree-trimming project.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met
with the Commissioners for a weekly update. Warren informed the Board that the
first round of roadside mowing has been completed. Roadside grading continues
on Harris Road; once completed, they will move to Banner School Road east of
Independence Road. The crew plans to replace a tile on the north side of
Buckskin Road west of SR 15. The crew is continuing work on the former Garden
Ridge Nursery site. The contractor is continuing work on
Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road.
The
Commissioners attended the joint meeting with Paulding County Commissioners to
approve the annual maintenance assessments for both Paulding County and
Defiance County maintained ditches. The Joint Board approved the 2014
maintenance assessments for both Paulding County and Defiance County maintained
ditches.
The Commissioners’ Office recently received the
Monthly Activity Report from Defiance County Clerk of Courts Amy Galbraith. Amy
reported collecting $11,556.50 in Legal, $22,727.42 in
Title, $456,249.51 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax, and $3,772.06 in
Watercraft Tax, and depositing $111,392.48 in Legal and $462,260.34 in Title.
There were 1,922 titles issued, and 464 notation of
liens and 561 inspections.
The Commissioners’ Office recently received the
monthly reports for the Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency from
Director Sandy Schappert. Sandy reported collections of $661,389.00,
expenditures of $59,417.34 and a caseload of 2,780. This compares to
$583,952.00 in collections, $50,155.44 in expenditures and a caseload of 2,899
for May of 2012.
