DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 24, 2013

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr, and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the following agreements:

·         Continuation of sharing JFS Director and Social Services Supervisor with Paulding County;

·         Continuation of agreement for Defiance County Wastewater Operations to check the Paulding County Auglaize River Sewer pump stations;

·         Agreement with Defiance County Family & Children First Council and Defiance County General Health District for Project: Ohio Children’s Trust Fund;

·         Agreement with Defiance County Family & Children First Council and Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities for Project: Help Me Grow.

 

The Commissioners also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Paulding County Commissioners for a Joint County Department of Job and Family Service to be known as the Defiance-Paulding Consolidated Department of Job And Family Services. This MOU is effective upon signature of both Counties and will be in effect commencing July 1, 2013, and fully implemented on October 1, 2013. Defiance and Paulding Counties have determined that they share common concerns and desire to provide the best possible services to persons seeking services from a consolidate Department of Job and Family Services, including but not limited to, income maintenance programs (food assistance, Medicaid, cash assistance), child welfare, adult social services, and workforce development in their respective counties. By cooperating with one another and coordinating their powers and duties with the establishment of a Joint County Department of Job and Family Services under Section 329.40 of the Ohio Revised Code, their respective counties’ residents will be benefited and better served.

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Greg reported the following repairs being completed: pulled and cleaned pump at Defiance County’s Auglaize Sewer pump station #7; pulled and cleaned Christy pump; primed and tested Express and Breckler Road pump stations – replaced bad check valves; installed new breaker and soft start (under warranty) at Express

Sewer pump station; Paulding County’s Auglaize Sewer pump Station #7 lost prime due to leaking fittings a contractor replaced fittings and pulleys changed on pump and motor to speed up pump; changed grinder pump on Timber Crest Dr.; Tresslers jetted sludge return lines at Evansport; mowed and sprayed Defiance County’s Auglaize Sewer pump stations;  Tresslers ran a jet and a camera in the lines at the church in Paulding County’s Auglaize Sewer which resulted in a new cleanout cap being installed. Greg reported billing out $59,340.34, collecting $58,326.10, and having expenses of $40,116.53 in May.

 

The John Fifer and Lavon Wiles, Defiance County Fairboard, met with the Commissioners to discuss the waterlines at the Fairgrounds. They will work on a plan on waterline replacement to present to the Board.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for a weekly update. Warren informed the Board that Banner School Road was widened last week and being paved this week. Roadside grading continues on Banner School Road; the next area to have roadside grading is Stever Road near Flory Road.
