DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the annexation petition of 5.559 acres of real estate in Defiance Township into the City of Defiance. This land is located at the corner of Krouse Road and CR 424.

 

Per the recommendation of Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, the Commissioners approved the transfer of the following road responsibilities: Rosedale Road between SR 18 and SR 2 and Thiel Road from SR 2 to Rosedale Road be assigned to the County for maintenance and that the maintenance responsibility for Lake Road from Jericho Road to Defiance-Paulding County Line Road; Jericho Road from Casebeer-Miller Road to Lake Road; and Casebeer-Miller Road from SR 2 to Defiance-Paulding County Line Road be assigned to Hicksville Township. On June 20, 2013 the Commissioners also approved the transfer of the following road responsibilities: the one mile section of Rosedale Road between SR 18 and Thiel Road and one-half mile section of Rosedale Road south of Huber Road be assigned to the County for maintenance and that the three mile section of Fountain Street Road between Farmer Mark Road and Behnfeldt Road be assigned to Mark Township for maintenance.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Environmental Services/Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Tim informed the Board that the Landfill construction project is currently on time and in budget.

 

The Interstate Joint Board of Defiance County, Ohio and DeKalb County, Indiana met to review the annual ditch maintenance assessments. The Joint Board approved the ditch maintenance assessments for ditches maintained by both Defiance and DeKalb Counties.

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, and representatives from Fairfield Computer Services joined session to discuss the possibility of selling dog tags on-line. The process to implement this service will begin.  Randy reported investigating 128 complaints in May that resulted in 25 dogs taken to the shelter, 17 warnings issued and 31 citations written. There were 3,993 miles driven and $911.50 collected in Municipal Court fines. There has been $100,565.00 received from dog tag sales, which is $21,803.00 more than in 2012.

 

The Commissioners attended the Defiance County Planning Commission meeting.
