DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 22, 2013

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for a weekly update. Warren informed the Board that work at the Garden Ridge site is continuing. The crack sealing contractor is still working on Township roads. Work on Defiance-Ayersville Pleasant Bend Road is continuing also.

Jason Roehrig, Defiance County Soil & Water Conservation District, met with the Commissioners for a quarterly update. Jason informed the Board that the final assessments for Vetter Tile were mailed, with the advance payments due August 16, 2013. The view for the Flory Tile was recently conducted and the public hearing is scheduled for July 23, 2013. The department has provided technical assistance for: drainage improvements at Defiance County East; repair of tile breakdowns on the Evergreen Lane Office Complex farm; flooding concerns in Noble Township; flooding concerns in Mark Center; drainage improvements in Sherwood; and an erosion concern along the Tiffin River. They have worked on three mutual agreements/drainage projects. Jason stated that the FY 2014 State Match is $167,057.00, which is a 77% match on local funding. This is a reduction for FY 2013, which was an 81% match on local funding. There has been 30 site reviews performed in 2013.

The Commissioners’ Office recently received the June 2013 Monthly Activity Report from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported collecting $11,404.29 in legal, $19,156.24 in title, $435,778.90 in sales or use and dealers’ tax, and $5,880.91 in watercraft and depositing $143,572.53 in legal and $415,084.67 in title. There were 1,619 titles issued, 449 notation of liens and 417 inspections.
