DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2013

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.  

 

On Friday, August 9, 2013, the Commissioners’ Office received a petition for annexation from Jeffrey R. Lankenau, agent for the petitioners.  The petition is requesting 0.657 acres of land in the northeast quarter of Section 30 of Richland Township, Lot #69 in Saunder-Snyder Addition to be annexed into the City of Defiance. This is an Expedited Type 2 annexation. The Clerk is moving forward with the process in accordance with Ohio Revised Code.

 

Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update.

 

Jerry Hayes and Paige VanderSluijs, Defiance County Economic Development, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Randy reported investigating 112 calls that resulted in 21 dogs taken to the shelter, 18 warnings issued and 12 citations written during July. There was 4,056 miles driven and $640.00 received in Municipal Court fines. There has been $103,745.00 collected in dog tags fees, which is $18,162.00 over 2012.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Defiance County Senior Services is taking part in the Area Office's Senior Safari on September 10, 2013 at the Toledo Zoo. The Defiance County Senior Services Auxiliary is paying for a bus. The senior's cost is $2.50 for the lunch. The Defiance County Fair Senior Day Celebration set for August 22, 2013. The main sponsors are Defiance Eagles, Domino’s, Defiance County Fair Board and Senior Services. Events include: banjo players, 4-H fashion show, bingo, horse shoes, and musical entertainment.

 

John Lehner, David Williams, Jeff Leonard and Kent Seeman, City of Defiance; Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor; Rick Edmonds, Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities; and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to discuss City income tax collections at the Good Samaritan School.

 

The Commissioners’ Office recently received the monthly activity report from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts for July 2013. There was $9,031.85 in Legal, $22,621.30 in Title, $485,919.46 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax and $4,450.56 in Watercraft Tax collected during the month. There were deposits of $88,056.87 in Legal and $519,536.28 in Title. There were 1,944 titles issues, 557 notations of liens and 516 inspections.

 

The Commissioners’ Office recently received the monthly statistics for the Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency. Sandy Schappert, Director, reported collections of $567,073.00 for 2,797 cases during July. This compares to $565,331.00 collected for 2,889 cases in July 2012.
