COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 in the Hicksville Village Council Room,
Hicksville, Ohio. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris,
Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
On Friday, August
30, 2013, the Commissioners’ Office received an Expedited Type 2 Annexation
petition from Stephen F. Hubbard, agent for the petitioners. The petition
(“Spruce Street”) is requesting 2.263 acres of real estate in Richland Township
(Saunders-Snyder Addition) be annexed into the City of Defiance. The Clerk will
proceed with the process in accordance with ORC.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for a weekly update.
Warren stated that the cement stabilization of Rosedale Road and the ditch
relocation of Rosedale Road north of Thiel Road may begin next week. Widening
of Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road between Fullmer
Road and Dohoney Road is continuing. The roadside
grading on Buckskin Road east of Rosebrock Road is finishing. The chip sealing
is continuing and should be completed next week. Work at Garden Ridge should be
completed next week also. Warren reviewed his Accumulated Revenue Report.
Through August there has been $2,776,421.06 in revenue received. This compares
to $2,733,358.54 through August 2012.
The Commissioners’
Office recently received the monthly activity report from Defiance County
Recorder Cecilia Parsons. During August there were the following instruments
filed: 136 deeds, 147 mortgages, 223 releases and 9 powers of attorney. This
compares to 181 deeds, 187 mortgages, 211 releases, 5 powers of attorney, 1
plat and 1 lease during August 2012. There were receipts of $25,167.50, of
which $12,269.00 went to the Housing Trust Fund and $10,846.50 to the General
Fund. This compares to $29,299.95 in receipts in August 2012, of which
$14,344.60 went to the Housing Trust Fund and $12,639.35 to the General Fund.
On Saturday,
September 7, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. there will be a Military
Day/Wing Fest at Auglaize Village. The feature attraction is a WWII “LVT” amphibious tracked people carrier which will take
visitors on a ride like no other. In addition to military vehicles, the Vietnam
traveling wall will be returning to the Village for the second year. At
approximately 1:00 p.m. the chicken wing cook off is scheduled to start.
