DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.  

 

The Board authorized the Clerk to proceed with advertising for the Commissioners’ Receptionist/Deputy Clerk position, which will become vacant as of October 1, 2013.

 

Sherry Carnahan, Defiance County Finance Manager/Administrator, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update.

 

Eric Ratts and Allen Thorpe, DLZ, met with the Commissioners, Defiance County Common Pleas Judge Schmenk, Sheriff David Westrick, Defiance County Clerk of Courts Amy Galbraith, Erin Speith from Defiance County Probate/Juvenile Court, Sargeant Mark Denning from Courthouse Security, and Alyson Hagemen from Defiance County Common Pleas Court to present draft plans for the Courthouse Project. After reviewing the plans and obtaining feedback from the staff of the Courthouse, DLZ will continue to revise the plans. A meeting is scheduled for September 26, 2013 for the review of the plans and for the approval to move forward with the project. The project must be approved by a majority of: the three Commissioners, Judge Schmenk, Probate/Juvenile Court Judge Strausbaugh, Sheriff Westrick, and Amy Galbraith.

 

The Commissioners’ Office recently received the monthly activity report for August, 2013 from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported collecting $10,462.55 in Legal, $22,594.62 in Title, $396,101.48 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax, and $4,820.90 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of $50,656.43 in Legal and $426,876.87 in Title. There were 1,960 titles issued, 497 notations of liens and 604 inspections.

 

Sandy Schappert, Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, recently provided an update for August, 2013. There was $586,388.00 in collections and $64,865.46 in expenditures from 2,772 cases. This compares to $587,342.00 in collections and $59,349.05 in expenditures from 2,856 cases in August, 2012.
