COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2013
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:00
a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris,
Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
Russ Herman,
Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, met with the Commissioners for
an update on various pending legal matters.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed
the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for a weekly update. Warren
informed the Board that the cement stabilization began last week on Rosedale
Road; there is 440 pounds of stone per square year being added to the roadway.
Asphalt placement has begun on Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road. The crew
is seeding at the Garden Ridge site. The chip sealing work should be completed
today.
Brian Leckey and Linda Maag, State Auditors,
met with the Board of Commissioners and the Audit Committee for an Exit Audit
meeting.
Sheriff Westrick, Chief Deputy Engel, and Deputy/Investigator Mueller,
met with the Commissioners to discuss space concerns with the M.A.N. Unit. All parties will continue to look into the
matter.
The Commissioners met with Paulding County Commissioner Roy
Klopfenstein, Corey Walker, Job & Family Services Director, Morris Murray,
Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant
Prosecuting Attorney to discuss the Job & Family Services consolidation.
The Commissioners’ Office recently received notice from the National
Association of Counties (NACo) of the appointment of Commissioner Nicely to the
NACo Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee and the Rural Action
Caucus. The Steering Committee members help to establish the goals and policy
priorities of NACo. NACo caucus members play a critical role in advancing
legislative and policy priorities important to the nation's counties.
