DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2013

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.  

 

Julie Rittenhouse, Defiance County Public Safety Services Coordinator, met with the Commissioners for a quarterly update. Julie reported that all county building inspections were completed. Tornado and fire drills were conducted at the Evergreen Lane Office Complex and the Commissioners’ Building. The Open House in honor of National Preparedness Month was held. Over 300 kids came through the facility that day.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for a weekly update. Warren reviewed his Accumulated Revenue Report for September 2013, which was $3,132,581.52. This compares to $3,084,097.09 for September, 2012. Warren stated that Rosedale Road has been paved and bermed; the two driveway approaches still need poured with 12” of concrete from the edge of the pavement to the edge of the right-of-way. The surface course of pavement is to be completed this week on Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road. Work is continuing on the Weber Road bridge replacement.

 

Les McCaslin, Four County ADAMhs Board, met with the Commissioners for an update. Les stated that they are seeking voter approval of a 7/10 Mil Levy Renewal to generate funds that will be used to better the services provided by the Four County ADAMhs Board for the community use by improving children and adult services, and education prevention. The Four County ADAMhs Board has already taken significant steps to reduce spending without cutting critical services for children and adults. This investment will improve the quality of life for all residents of our communities; the Defiance County Commissioners supports and endorses the passage of the Four County Mental Health Levy Renewal.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, Inc., Sheriff David Westrick, Chief Deputy Doug Engel, and Deputy Steven Mueller, met with the Commissioners at the Defiance County East Complex to discuss space concerns. The matter will continue to be reviewed.

 

The Committee to approve the plans for the Defiance County Courthouse met with Eric Ratts, DLZ, to discuss the Courthouse project. Eric provided a PowerPoint presentation with revised proposed floor layouts for discussion. A motion was made, and seconded, to proceed with the project utilizing the plans presented, including option B for the 2nd and 3rd Floor. Both Judges requested additional time to review the plans before they would cast their vote. The motion and second was rescinded. The Commissioners will hold a special session at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 for the Committee to vote on approving the plans for the Courthouse Project.
