DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2013

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

Morris Murray and Russ Herman, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.  

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for a weekly update. Warren informed the Board that the beams should be set this week on the Weber Road bridge. The surface course of asphalt is completed on Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road; it still needs installed on the side roads and driveway approaches. The Pavement Marking contractor will begin this week on Rosedale Road and Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road.

 

Sandy Schappert, Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, met with the Commissioners for a quarterly update. Sandy reported collections on current support for the end of the Federal Fiscal Year (9/30/2013) was 75.39%, compared to 75.52% for the same period last year; collections on arrears-only cases was 76.43%, compared to last year of 76.60%. The statewide average current collections are about 67.35%. From July to September there were 88 court and/or administrative hearings, 53 paternity establishments, and 60 new support orders.

 

Vickie Myers, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the Commissioners to review the applications submitted for Public Depositors.

 

Amy Hoffman, Palmer Energy, met with the Commissioners to discuss the CCAO Service Corporation’s Electric Aggregation Program.

 

Due to lack of sponsorship, the 2013 Household Hazardous Waste collection has been cancelled.

 

The Commissioners’ Office recently received the monthly activity report for September 2013 from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. There was $9,672.41 in Legal, $21,452.49 in Title, $393,503.74 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax, and $4,226.53 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of $55,768.70 in Legal and $393,954.90 in Title. There were 1,852 titles issued, 633 notations of liens, and 497 inspections.
