COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2013
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris,
Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed
the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, met with the
Commissioners for a monthly update.
Julie Rittenhouse, Defiance County Public Safety Services Coordinator;
Larry Woods and Darby Naton, First Insurance Group,
met with the Commissioners to discuss the 2014-2015 CORSA renewal application.
Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services
Director, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Tina informed the
Board that they are still providing assistance with Medicare Part D through
December 7, 2013. Tina informed the Board that the Thanksgiving Dinner
scheduled for Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Defiance County Senior Center.
The meal is being sponsored by Cooper Farms, who is donating 125 pounds of
turkey, so that the home delivered meal participants as well as the congregate
participants can enjoy delicious turkey. Defiance Moose Lodge #2094 is the
other sponsor; they have donated $1,000.00 to pay for the cost of the remaining
food items.
The Commissioners’ Office received the Monthly Activity Report for
October 2013 from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported
collecting $12,589.47 in Legal, $20,859.86 in Title, $435,806.76 in Sales or
Use and Dealers’ Tax, and $2,080.26 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of
$62,231.86 in Legal and $466,936.78 in Title. There were 1,804 titles issued,
486 notation of liens, and 516 inspections.
The Commissioners’
Office received notification that the Four County Solid Waste District
(Defiance, Fulton, Paulding and Williams Counties), North Star BlueScope Steel
LLC, and Lafarge are working together for the Household Hazardous Waste Day
2013. North Star BlueScope Steel LLC will be sponsoring a household hazardous
waste collection drive on Saturday November 16, 2013, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00
p.m. You can bring your wastes to the plant entrances and will be directed to
the drop off location. North Star BlueScope Steel LLC is located at 6767 County
Rd. 9, Delta, Ohio 43515.
