COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2013
The
Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:00 a.m. on
Monday, November 25, 2013 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office
at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance
Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz,
Clerk.
Russ
Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the
Commissioners to discuss pending and imminent legal matters.
The
Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the
calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for a weekly update. Weber Road has re-opened after being closed
for a bridge replacement. The Defiance County crew constructed geosynthetic
reinforced soil (GRS) abutments with recycled steel beams and concrete deck. The steel beams were
originally the bridge over Mud Creek for The Bend Road. The total cost for this
bridge replacement project was $80,036.71. Warren stated that the crews will
work on culvert replacement projects and tree removal along the roadways
through the winter months, so that they are prepared to plow snow and salt the
roadways as needed.
Tim Houck, Defiance
County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update. Tim reported
that 2013 is the second best year ever for the Defiance County Landfill for
revenue. Tim reported that there was $314,623.15 in sales from 10,781.64 tons
and 35,844 cubic yards in October; this compares to $328,402.64 in sales from 12,142.94
tons and 38,467 cubic yards in October 2012.
Terri Mahaney, Medical Mutual, and Ken Keller, First Insurance
Group, met with the Commissioners to discuss the 2014 employee health insurance
renewal.
