COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2013
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2013 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris,
Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed
the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, met with the
Commissioners for a monthly update.
Ron Cereghin, Defiance County Maintenance Supervisor, met with the Commissioners
for a quarterly update. Ron reported the following items being completed: wired
in battery back-up system for EMA building; replaced water heater EMA; installed
water service to Ditch Maintenance building; poured sidewalk on South side of Evergreen
Lane Office Complex; renovated Record Center basement for storage area; built
steps and sheeted loft of old shelter barn; poured concrete for approaches to
the new goat barn at fairgrounds; worked on the water main break at the Defiance
County East complex; built handrail for Defiance County East North entrance; installed
new condensate tank for Courthouse boiler; trimmed all lower branches on trees
at Defiance County East complex; painted all the handicap parking spaces.
Ben Gerken and Terri Agler, Defiance County Soil and Water, met with
the Commissioners for the bid opening for Flory Tile #13-01. Ben Kauser, Kauser
Trucking & Excavating, and Les Southwick, Vernon Nagel, Inc., was also in
attendance. The pre-bid estimate for the project was $71,679.85.The following
bids were received: Vernon Nagel, Inc. - $77,156.00; Kauser Trucking &
Excavating - $77,238.19; Sand Ridge Excavating - $71,468.50; B. Hill’z
Excavating - $78,745.50. The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and
will award at a later date.
The Commissioners’ Office received the Monthly Activity Report for November
2013 from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported
collecting $9,015.03 in Legal, $16,352.08 in Title, $357,738.58 in Sales or Use
and Dealers’ Tax, and $542.17 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of $88,056.87
in Legal and $360,897.72 in Title. There were 1,427 titles
issued, 351 notation of liens, and 422 inspections.
