COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, JANUARY 16, 2014
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners James E.
Harris, Jr. and Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator,
and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed
the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners certified the November Solid Waste Disposal Submittal
Forms for the Landfill facilities. Defiance Township, as the host government
agency received $1,923.89. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) also
received $886.16 for the construction & demolition debris (C&DD) waste.
Monthly (MSW) Disposal fees paid to the Ohio EPA for the Defiance County
Landfill was $27,737.82.

Tina Hiler,
Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for a
monthly update. Tina reported that the Defiance County Senior Services
Auxiliary donated $57,566.00 for projects in 2013, which included $50,000.00
for parking lot expansion and $4,700.00 to update the furniture at both
Defiance and Hicksville Centers. The Commissioners and the Senior Services
staff would like to thank all entities for the donations to the Defiance County
Senior Services Auxiliary for their donations in 2013.
Sandy Schappert,
Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, met with the
Commissioners for a quarterly update. Sandy reported that during October to
December 2013 there were 10 genetic tests, 131 administrative and/or court
hearings, 51 new orders and 31 paternities established. Sandy reported that Collections
are down for the calendar year, but were up for the month of December 2013
compared to December of 2012.

Randy Vogel,
Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for a monthly update.
Randy reported that in December there were 52 calls investigated that resulted
in 11 dogs taken to the shelter, 11 warnings issued and 7 citations written.
There were 4,012 miles driven and $303.50 received in Municipal Court fines.
Julie Voll,
Defiance County Family & Children First Director, met with the
Commissioners for a monthly update.
The Commissioners
recently received the monthly activity report for December 2013 from Amy
Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported collecting $7,766.58
in Legal, $17,627.52 in Title, $443,727.49 in Sales or Use and Dealers Tax, and
$585.13 in Watercraft Tax. There were deposits of $59,177.84 in Legal and
$447,420.99 in Title. There were 1,525 titles issued, 527 notation of liens,
and 393 inspections.
