DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 20, 2015

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2015 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Ryan Mack and Otto L. Nicely, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Lanie Lambert, HR/Finance Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings. 

 

Cindy Mack, Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA). GOBA will be stopping in Defiance June 22-24, 2015. They will be entering Defiance from Bluffton, Ohio on June 22nd and will leave Defiance for Bowling Green, Ohio on June 24th. GOBA is anticipating approximately 2,500 bicyclists to participate in the event. They will be camping on the Defiance College campus. Cindy informed the Board that this event has been a huge boost to the local economy in the past.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. Warren informed the Board that the storm drainage work on Harris Road is continuing.

 

Greg Reinhart and Jan Rethmel, Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Greg reported that all the plants and pump stations were greased and oiled and the Ohio EPA mandated pump and control panel was installed at the Middle Gordon Creek wastewater treatment plant. Greg also reported that in March $58794.54 was billed out, $121,168.66 was collected and there were expenses of $49,638.26.

 

Jerry Hayes and Paige VanderSluijs, Defiance County Economic Development, and Jeff Starner, Defiance County CIC President, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update and to discuss the Workforce Development Business Plan.
