DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Ryan Mack and Otto L. Nicely, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners certified the May Solid Waste Disposal Submittal Forms for the Landfill facilities. Defiance Township, as the host government agency received $2,602.27. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) also received $1,496.34 for the construction & demolition debris (C&DD) waste. Monthly (MSW) Disposal fees paid to the Ohio EPA for the Defiance County Landfill was $37,892.50. The Four County Solid Waste District received $13,621.19.

 

On June 10, 2015, the Commissioners’ Office received an annexation petition filed for 4.571 acres of land, located in Section 16 of Hicksville Township, to be annexed into the Village of Hicksville. The Village of Hicksville is the sole owner of the land requesting to be annexed.

 

The Commissioners provided the welcome at the Land to Lake Conference at Defiance College.

 

Gina Schell, Cindy Siler, and Chris Palmer, Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities, met with the Commissioners to provide a quarterly update. Gina informed the Board of a Public Forum being held on Wednesday, August 19th at 4:30 at Good Samaritan School. Lori Horvath, Deputy Director of Medicaid Development & Administration at Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities to discuss the Ohio Department of Development and the County Board system changes to comply with new Federal Regulations and changes proposed in the Governor’s budget. People recommended to attend are: individuals, family, providers, County Board staff, and community members. Similar questions that will be discussed are: Is the workshop closing? What if I can’t find work in the community? Are independent providers still an option? Will I get the same services I’ve always had?

 

The Commissioners held that annual ditch maintenance review with Henry County Commissioners via teleconference. Kevin Hancock, Defiance County Ditch Maintenance, reviewed the Ditch Maintenance Inspection Assessment Report for 2016 for the ditches maintained by Defiance County, which detailed the current balances for the ditches, the proposed work, the proposed 2016 assessment, and the estimated balance. Bob George, Henry County Soil & Water, reviewed the Ditch Maintenance Inspection Assessment Report for 2016 for the ditches maintained by Henry County, which detailed the current balances for the ditches, the proposed work, the proposed 2016 assessment, and the estimated balance. The Joint Board approved the proposed 2016 assessments for both Defiance County maintained and Henry County maintained ditches.
