DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 28, 2016

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ conference at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

June Crosser, Defiance County Landfill, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. June reported 2015 sales of $4,081,572.17, which is a record year, from 131,483.49 tons and 455,929 cubic yards.

 

Jason Roehrig, Defiance County Soil & Water Conservation District, met with the Commissioners to provide a quarterly update. Jason informed the Board that the deer lottery at Penney Nature Center has only harvested two deer, so he is researching obtaining nuisance permits. Jason informed the Board that the Kids Outdoor Science Camp is being scheduled for 2016 with the theme “Every BODY Loves Science Camp”. The poster contest is underway with the theme “We all need trees”.

 

The Investment Advisory Committee of Vickie Myers (Defiance County Treasurer), Amy Galbraith (Defiance County Clerk of Courts) and the Commissioners met for the Fourth Quarter Investment Advisory Meeting. Ryan Nelson, Redtree Investment Group, also attended the meeting. The Defiance County Investment Portfolio, Landfill Closure Portfolio and Post Closure Portfolio were approved.

 

Carrie Whetstine and Savannah Weber, United Way of Defiance County, and Tony Saxton, Defiance Memorial Airport, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Hot Air Balloon Festival. Carrie and Savannah thanked the Commissioners, the Sheriff’s Office, Public Safety and the Airport for the assistance with the successful 2015 Hot Air Balloon Festival. They stated that there were approximately 5,000 people that attended the event, which raised approximately $21,000.00. They requested permission to use the Defiance Memorial Airport for the 2016 Hot Air Balloon Festival on Saturday, August 6, 2016; permission was given.

 

Craig Riedel met with the Commissioners to introduce himself and inform them that he is running for State Representative for the 82nd District.
