The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 in the Second
Floor Conference Room of the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street,
Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts
and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and
Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The
Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming
meetings.
Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant
Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on
various pending and imminent legal matters.
Scott Schroeder, Poggemeyer Design Group, met
with the Commissioners to open the qualifications submitted for Design-Build Companies
for the Defiance County Maintenance Facility Project. The pre-bid estimate for
the project is $650,000.00. The following companies submitted qualifications:
Spyker Construction, McDonalds Design Build, Miller Contracting Group, Mel Lanzer Company, Rupp/Rosebrock,
The Baker Schindler Company and The Delvanthall
Company. The next steps in the process are: review and ranking of the
qualifications, meeting with the top company and opening the submitted cost
proposal for the project. Poggemeyer Design Group is assisting the
Commissioners with this project as the Criteria Architect/Engineer.
The Defiance County Board of Commissioners is seeking applications
of persons interested in being Defiance County’s Apiary Inspector for the 2017
apiary season (approximate season from March 15th to October 31st,
weather permitting). This person would act as an authorized representative of
the Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture; the County Apiary Inspector
inspects honey bee colonies within the appointing County to prevent the
introduction, dissemination, and establishment of honey bee diseases and pests,
as required by Ohio Revised Code. It is recommended that the applicant have a
minimum three years beekeeping experience, good people skills and attention to
details. Application

accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017.
