The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2017 in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide a weekly update for the Engineer’s Office and a monthly update for the Landfill. Warren reported that January 2017 was a record month for the Landfill. There were sales of $340,939.68 from 10,663.34 tons and 39,807 cubic yards; this compares to sales of $279,661.18 from 8,571.42 tons and 31,291 cubic yards in January, 2016.

 

Sandy Kessler and Emma Kirkpatrick, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners to hold the First Public Hearing for PY2017 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program; PY 2017 Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF). The County may be eligible for approximately $4 million of Program Year 2017 CDBG/HOME/OHTF funding, providing the County meets applicable program requirements.  The programs available to Defiance County were outlined in the State of Ohio Consolidated Plan and were presented at the Public Hearing. A broad range of activities can be funded through the programs, including: housing rehabilitation, home ownership assistance, economic development, downtown revitalization, water and sewer facilities, flood and drainage facilities, streets and sidewalks, senior centers, parks, and demolition of unsafe structures.  Projects must be designed to primarily benefit low-to-moderate income persons, aid in the prevention of slums or blight, or meet an urgent need in the community.

 

Jerry Hayes, Defiance County Economic Development Director, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update.

 

Darrell Handy, Defiance Area Chamber of Commerce, met with the Commissioners to provide an update.

 

Max Nofzinger, M.A.N. Unit, met with the Commissioners to have the Commissioners sign the Subgrant Award Agreement in the amount of $66,666.67.
