The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2017 in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.


The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.


Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Randy reported investigating 61 calls in January, which resulted in 12 dogs taken to the shelter, 7 citations written and 10 warnings issued. There were 3,415 miles driven and $530.00 received in Municipal Court fines.


Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services’ Director, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update.


Carrie Wetstein and Savannah Weber, United Way of Defiance County, and Tony Saxton, TAS Aviation, met with the Commissioners to discuss the 2017 Hot Air Balloon Festival. They thanked the Commissioners, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Defiance County Public Safety Services, Noble Township Trustees, the Airport Board and TAS Aviation for their support to make the event a success the last three years. Last year there was over 5,000 people in attendance and raised over $20,000.00 for the United Way of Defiance County Community Engagement Center program. This program promotes, connects and coordinates community services in Defiance County. The 2017 Defiance County Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held on Saturday, August 5th.


The Commissioners attended the Defiance County Planning Commission meeting.


On Friday, the Commissioners will meet with Mike Barth, Village of Hicksville Councilman, at Kissner’s Restaurant.


There will be no session on Monday, February 20, 2017; the Commissioners’ Office is closed in observance of Presidents’ Day.
