The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2017 in the
Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts
and Mick Pocratsky, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The
Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming
meetings.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide a weekly update
for the Engineer’s Office and Landfill. Warren stated that the paving has been
completed on New Bavaria Road, Defiance Ayersville Pleasant Bend Road, and Ney
Williams Center Road; the roads still need to be bermed.
The contractor is continuing with the crack sealing work throughout the County.
The Highway Garage personnel will begin a bridge replacement on Independence
Road north of Behrens Road.
Representatives
from the Fort Defiance Humane Society met with the Commissioners to provide an
update. Shane Wilson explained that the Humane Society Board level is
reconstructing; they have started a financial committee. Mr. Wilson provided
the Commissioners with a listing of changes to the management of the
organization that has occurred since the beginning of the year. Mr. Wilson then
presented the Commissioners with a formal request for a $30,000 donation from
General Fund to be made annually. The Board then discussed the current contract
for the care of dogs received from the Defiance County Dog Warden (for 2017
this is $25,000 from Dog and Kennel Fund). Mr. Wilson explained that the Humane
Society is requesting the $30,000 donation on top of the contracted $25,000.00
a year.
Representatives
from the State Auditor’s Office met with the Commissioners and members of the
Audit Committee for the entrance conference. The entrance conference was not
conducted in an open meeting per the request of Ms. Maag in accordance with
Section 121.22 (D) (2) of the Ohio Revised Code. The State Auditors will audit Defiance
County’s basic financial statements as of and for the year ended December 31,
2016.
Judge Strausbaugh
and Lisa Linebrink, Probate/Juvenile Court, met with
the Commissioners to discuss the Computer fund.
The Commissioners
attended the Youth Workforce Development Committee meeting.
