The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 in the
Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Gary Plotts
and Mick Pocratsky, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
Dr. Nicole Payne, Defiance County Coroner,
met with the Commissioners to provide an update.
Jared Orzalek,
Sabre/FWT, met with the Commissioners to provide them with an update on the
proposed training center for welders at their facility in Hicksville. The project
would involve training and certifying new employees to the company’s standards
in order to boost their workforce.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The
Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming
meetings.
Sandy Kessler, Maumee Valley Planning
Organization, met with the Commissioners for the 2nd Public Hearing
for the FY 2017 CDBG CD Allocation Program. Sandy informed the Board that she
just recently received notification that Defiance County will receive
$150,000.00 for CD Allocation for this funding cycle. There has been $30,000.00
set aside for administration.
The Board of Commissioners was informed by
Suzanne Dulaney, Director of the County Commissioners
Association of Ohio (CCAO), that the Senate Omnibus Amendment to the State
Biennium Budget does not include any remedy for the loss of sales tax revenue
for managed care organizations. This cut will result in a $300,000 reduction to
Defiance County’s yearly sales tax revenue. The Counties are simply seeking
revenue stability by holding on to their current levels of funding. The
replacement of this revenue would not be a tax increase. The Board raised
concerns that this cut, along with other pending losses of revenue, may result
in budget cuts for the County in 2018.
