The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017 in the
Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512.
Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Mick Pocratsky
and Gary Plotts, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The
Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming
meetings.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update from
the Engineer’s Office and the Landfill. Warren informed the Board that
Breininger Road is closed south of Buckskin Road for a bridge replacement.
There is also roadside grading being completed on Buckskin Road both east and
west of The Bend Road. Roadside mowing is continuing.
The Investment
Advisory Committee of Vickie Myers (Defiance County Treasurer), Amy Galbraith
(Defiance County Clerk of Courts) and the Commissioners met for the Second
Quarter Investment Advisory Meeting. Ryan Nelson, Redtree
Investment Group, and Warren Schlatter, Landfill Manager, also attended the
meeting. The
Defiance County Investment Portfolio, Landfill Closure Portfolio and Post
Closure Portfolio were approved.
Janalee Rethmel, Defiance County Wastewater
Operations, met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Greg
reported the following maintenance items being completed in June: cleaned the
pump at Paulding County’s Auglaize Sewer Pump Station #1; greased and oiled all
the pump stations and plants; replaced an air pump and check valve at Express
Sewer Pump Station; installed new cleanout cap on Paulding County Road 171;
changed a grinder pump on St. Rte. 637 in Paulding County; installed a new
exhaust fan at Paulding County Auglaize River Pump Station #1; installed new
air release valve at Paulding County Auglaize River Sewer Pump Station #8; installed
air diffusers in aeration tank at Middle Gordon Creek; replace grinder pump and
repaired leak on pressure line at the Airport; replaced grinder at the County
Garage; replaced grinder pump on Switzer Road; dam inspection was completed by
Ohio Department of Natural Resources. In June there was $58,297.54 billed out,
$58,789.93 collected, and expenses of $69,209.75.
Jerry Sanders, Carol Sines and Lavon Wiles,
Defiance County Agricultural Society (Fairboard), and Tina Hiler, Defiance County
Senior Services, met with the Commissioners to request funding to replace the
concrete pad that is used for Veterans’ Day/Senior Citizens’ Day and add a
sidewalk from the asphalt to the concrete pad.
They stated that the only have one quote for the work, but should have
two more in. The Board requested to receive all of the quotes before they will
make a decision; the Board also inquired if there would be adequate time prior
to the Fair for the work to be completed. The Fairboard also provided an update
on the effect the closure of Main Street in Hicksville will have on the people
getting to the Fairgrounds.
