The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2017 in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Mick Pocratsky and Gary Plotts, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

Mayor Mike McCann, Nikki Warncke, and David Williams, City of Defiance, met with the Commissioners to discuss various matters. Jerry Hayes, Defiance County Economic Development; and Sean O’Donnell were also in attendance. Items discussed were: possibility of extending the bike trail from Independence Dam State Park to Napoleon; possible use of the County EMA Building for the City Fire Department during the Clinton Street Bridge Project, and internet service issues in the County for businesses.

 

Jerry Hayes, Mayor McCann, David Williams, Sean O’Donnell, Andrew Lorez - Regional Growth Partnership,  and representatives from Toledo Edison met with the Commissioners in executive session to discuss infrastructure improvements for a possible economic development project. There were no decisions made in executive session.

 

Jim Harris and Wes Zwiebel, Brunersburg Water & Sewer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Dennis Miller and Sandy Kessler, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, were also in attendance. Jim informed the Board that they would like to hire an engineering firm to perform a study to provide a general plan for the Evansport Public Water System in response to findings and orders (due to high TTHM’s). The cost of the study from Peterman Associates, Inc. is $11,500.00. Jim requested permission from the Commissioners to use the capital funds for the system for this expense; the Board approved the use of these funds. Dennis stated that there will be a couple options to receive grants for any upgrades needed for the project.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
