The Board of
Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September
21, 2017 in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Mick Pocratsky
and Gary Plotts, Sherry Carnahan, Fiscal Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie
Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners
met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts
and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and
discussed upcoming meetings.
Tina Hiler,
Defiance County Senior Services’ Director, met with the Commissioners to
provide a monthly update. Tina reported that there were 59,965 meals and 7,421
rides provided to date through August. Tina informed thanked Stark Trucking and
the Stark family for the purchase, processing and donation of a hog from the Defiance
County Fair. Tina informed the Board that the Auxiliary will be providing the
pop at water at Ribfest on September 30th. They have also planned a
craft fair for Saturday, November 9th at the Defiance Center; they
are in search of vendors for this event.
UPDATE ON BROWNFIELD PROJECTS
Today, in session, the Board approved a letter to JobsOhio to
acknowledge JobsOhio’s commitment of assistance,
dated July 6, 2017, to perform a Phase II Assessment at 1070 Jackson Street in
the City of Defiance, Ohio. These funds
will assist Defiance County and will permit the completion of a Phase II
Environmental Assessment to support the eventual redevelopment of the Vortex
Site. Specifically, the Board accepted the commitment for the proposed: $53,842
in to perform a Phase II Environmental Assessment at 1070 Jackson Street,
Defiance, Ohio.
Vickie
Myers, Defiance County Treasurer, also informed the Board that the Tax
Certificates for the former SK Tools property have been prepared and are ready
to be recorded with the Defiance County Recorder’s Office. This is the first step in transferring the
property to the proposed redevelopment company.
