The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Mick Pocratsky and Gary Plotts, Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update for the Engineer’s Office and the Landfill. Warren informed the Board that they pier repair on the “Clarksville Bridge” on Defiance Williams County Line Road was completed. They are continuing with roadside mowing and dura patching. They will begin roadside grading on Buckskin Road between Mulligans Bluff Road and The Bend Road. They are also repairing culverts in Washington Township. Warren informed the Board that beginning Monday, the Landfill will begin operating on winter hours (8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.).

 

The meeting scheduled with Joseph Lyon, The Lyon Firm, was cancelled by Mr. Lyon.

 

Justin Harrington, Assistant Wildlife Management Supervisor Division Two for Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), met with the Commissioners to discuss the approval of an agreement to provide ODNR the authority for a wildlife management for hunting, fishing and trapping of additional wooded lands between the existing Oxbow Lake and State Route 15. The Board stated that they will take the request under advisement and make a decision at a later date.

 

Amy Galbraith, Clerk of Courts; Judge Schmenk and Alyson Hageman, Common Pleas Court; Judge Strausbaugh, Erin Spieth, and Lisa Linebrink, Probate/Juvenile Court; and Morris Murray, Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Record Center and Courthouse IT. Amy stated that they had researched storage options for their space at the Record Center and in her storage room in the Clerk of Courts Office. Amy submitted a quote for the installation of high density shelving for the two areas. Sherry informed the meeting participants that they would need to research if the existing flooring could handle the additional weight of the high density shelving units. They also discussed their previous request for a different IT vendor for the Courthouse departments. The Commissioners took both matters under advisement to make a decision later during budget discussions.
