The Board of
Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, October
2, 2017 in the Commissioners’ Session Room at 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Commissioner Ryan Mack called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioner Mick Pocratsky,
Sherry Carnahan, Finance Manager/Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners
met in General Session. They approved and signed various resolutions, contracts
and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and
discussed upcoming meetings.
Dennis Miller and
Emma Kirkpatrick, Maumee Valley Planning Organization;
and Jerry Hayes, Defiance County Economic Development Director, met with the
Commissioners to inform them that the Pioneer Railcorp
is applying for a TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery)
Grant for upgrades to their rail line. The total project is $12 million.
Pioneer Railcorp has committed the 20% match for the
project. The Commissioners committed to providing a necessary letter of support
for this grant application.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance
County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update for the
Engineer’s Office and the Landfill. Warren reported that the roadside grading
on Buckskin Road between Mulligans Bluff Road and The Bend Road is being
completed. They may begin culver replacements on Ney Williams Center Road, in
preparation for repaving in 2018. They may begin a bridge replacement project
next week on Shultz Road. Warren has started his annual bridge inspections.
The regularly
scheduled update meeting with the Prosecutor’s Office was cancelled.
